Updating the machine hosting your application may require updating the BASIS license managing its use to a version tested and supported by BASIS for the new machine and/or operating system. BASIS continues to add new features and function to the language, database, and development tools that only a newer license can access. Either way it’s good to know that you have choices when upgrading your BASIS application license. Firstly, if the license has active SAM maintenance coverage, there is no charge to upgrade. Simply re-register the license. If the license is not current on SAM, you have these choices:
Convert to SaaS (Low cost annual subscription)
This is the least expensive upgrade path. Converting the license to an annual subscription license saves money while protecting your intellectual property. Here is how the conversion works:
- Purchase SAM Plan coverage for the time that lapsed from its expiration date
- Pay the annual license fee equivalent to one year of SAM on an Enterprise license
- Save the 12% reinstatement fee, applicable to lapsed SAM, that is otherwise incurred with an upgrade to a perpetual license
- This SaaS license is available in the Extended Edition and includes the SAM Plan. At the end of each year, renew through b-commerce® for another year's use of the license.
Standard Upgrade
BASIS offers no cost product license upgrades through the SAM Plan for customers who purchase this software and support maintenance coverage for their older BASIS licenses. To upgrade a BASIS Product License that does not have SAM coverage:
- Purchase the SAM Plan retroactively from the original date of purchase through today plus one year
- If this license previously had SAM Plan coverage that is now lapsed, pay the non-discountable reinstatement fee based on a percentage of the list price of a new license
- The upgrade includes one year of the SAM Plan which also entitles the license to free upgrades for a year from purchase date
- In all situations, the customer will always receive a discount from the list price of a new license
The license upgrade includes the new perpetual license format which automatically performs a monthly failover and recovery. The perpetual license allows for the changing of host IDs without having to contact your BASIS representative to purchase a license reset. License rests are no longer required. A restart of the BLM is all that is needed and a new license is retrieved with the new HostID. Moving to a brand new machine? Simply register from the new machine for a new license via the “Register and install a license automatically” option and remove the license from the old machine.
