00995: Computer infected with virus can lose drive mappings causing VP5 to return errors

Title:

Computer infected with virus can lose drive mappings causing VP5 to return errors

Description:

There is at least one (possibly more) viruses or trojan horse viruses out there that remove Network Drive Mapping information from a PC.

If a Visual PRO/5 application running on a Windows network has been working without problems suddenly returns errors about OPENing data files (error=12) or LOADing programs (error=12 or Error=17), it’s possible that a virus has infected one or more workstations.

Resolution:

Run a complete virus scan on the workstation using the most recent update available from the vendor. This virus will remove any network drives mapped to a local machine regardless of the application being used. This problem may not be specific to Visual PRO/5.
