00925: FLEXlm error -12 connecting from VPRO/5 rev 3.10 client to a Novell BLM

Title:

FLEXlm error -12 connecting from VPRO/5 rev 3.10 client to a Novell BLM

Description:

Visual PRO/5 3.10 uses FLEXlm 7.0g. FLEXlm version 7.0g will not work in IPX mode on a Windows 95b system with Novell Client kit version 3.3 installed. Engineering tested this issue and was able to re-create the FLEXlm error -12 regardless of whether or not the server was running. Two possible workarounds are:

1.) either run the later BLM locally on one of the Windows machines or
2.) install TCP/IP on the NetWare 3.12 server. This can be done by putting these lines in the AUTOEXEC.NCF:
        load tcpip RIP=No Forward=No
        bind IP to ACCTON ARP=Yes Mask=FF.FF.FF.0 Address=192.168.1.111

Note that “ACCTON” will need to be changed to the actual name of the network card driver. The network card driver name can usually be spotted by looking at the other load lines in AUTOEXEC.NCF. Also note that “address” will need to be changed to the IP address to be assigned to the server.

After this is done, the pointer license file(s) will need to be changed to use TCP/IP. If there are DNS problems, you might want to consider using the IP address instead of the server name in the pointer license file.
