Title:

Error 18 or 13 when trying to erase, create or write to file via Data Server under NT.

Description:

Verify that the file can be opened via the data server. This issue will allow you to open files but will not allow you to write, create or erase files via the data server. This only occurs on Rev 2.04 or later REV’s of the data server when it can run as a service.

Resolution:

In Control Panel, select Services, click on Startup. Change the Log On Account from System to This Account and use the sysadmin account or equivalent. It is possible that the system account does not have adequate permissions. 

It’s possible that the above solution will not always help under Windows NT and 2000. The reason is that Windows NT/2000 Services have problems recognizing mapped drives and so their use is discouraged. Once the PRO/5 Data Server was designed to run as a service, the use of mapped drives by the PRO/5 Data Server Service is limited.
