Title:

Cannot start the Data Server due to a ‘gethostbyname failure’

Description:

The ‘get host by name failure’ message may occur when starting the Data Server. When invoked, the Data Server issues a hostname command in order to find out what machine it’s running on. If this isn’t defined at the system level, the Data Server will not start.

Resolution:

Ensure that the operating system command ‘hostname’ will return the proper information. If it does not, please contact your system administrator. 
Note: The following command will automatically check the output of $hostname against the /etc/hosts file. 
        grep `hostname` /etc/hosts
